Our manufacturing facility at Puducherry has an installed capacity to produce 1200 Metric Tonnes of Cardanol, 250 Metric Tonnes of Residol, 1500 Metric Tonnes of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) and 300 Metric Tonnes of Friction Dust per month. Plans to augment the production capacity are on the anvil. Our facility utilizes proven and innovative technology of continuous distillation process. Another factor which contributes to the optimal pricing and supply favorable to our customers is sourcing of quality raw material from close proximity.

Recently, considerable interest of the chemistry of renewable resources and their resulting materials has grown with a view to reduce the use of finite petroleum-based resources. Indeed, until recently, the largest part of the resources used for the production of commodity materials is mainly petroleum-based compounds. However, the depletion of fossil resources, combined to their increasing prices and the growing environmental concerns, led to huge demand in the development of new bio-based precursors. In consequence, numerous researchers focused in the past few years on the use of naturally occurring building-blocks for the synthesis of monomers and polymeric materials. Among the possible raw renewable materials available for the development of new bio-based materials, cardanol is gaining considerable interest as a natural source of phenol and a versatile building block.

Cardanol

A bio-based building block for new sustainable and functional materials is a naturally occurring phenolic compound issued from cashew nutshell liquid. The name of the substance is derived by contraction from the genus Anacardium, which includes the cashew tree, Anacardium Occidentale. The name of the genus itself is based on the Greek word for heart. Its chemical structure is interesting because cardanol is bearing a phenolic hydroxyl function and an unsaturated alkyl chain in meta. Numerous chemical reactions can thus be considered for its chemical modification. Cardanol is produced from Cashew Nutshell Liquid (CNSL), and is an economical and abundant non-edible agricultural annually renewable resource used in many applications in research and industry. Besides the sustainability, availability and the advantageous price of raw cardanol compound, its particular aromatic structure makes it an interesting and promising natural alternative to petrochemical derived phenols. Indeed, due to similar reactivity to a phenol compound and through various chemical modifications on its available reactive sites, a wide range of molecules can be designed with wide application range such as surfactants, plasticizers or polymer precursors.
